Braver Angels Convention 2024: Building Bridges Across Political Divides

At the 2024 Braver Angels convention, the Grand Bargain Project’s session explored six key issues to find common ground.

Post

The 2024 Braver Angels convention recently concluded in Kenosha, WI, and it was nothing short of a resounding success! This gathering brought together passionate citizens from all corners of the United States to dive deep into our nation's political landscape and foster a stronger sense of community.

A standout event at the convention was the Grand Bargain Project’s breakout session titled "A Proposal to Solve America’s Critical Problems." This session was designed to explore at a grassroots level the six foundational issues of the Grand Bargain Project (GBP)—economic opportunity, education, healthcare, taxes, national debt, and energy—that are central to the GBP movement. Participants engaged in lively discussions and interactive activities aimed at rethinking solutions to these pressing challenges.

The session began with over 30 participants divided into 5 groups, each tasked with identifying which of the six issues they deemed non-negotiable ("deal breakers"). From there, groups collaborated to propose revised solutions that could garner broader support across different political perspectives. Notably, healthcare and education emerged as the most revisited topics, highlighting their significance in the eyes of the attendees.

Key Insights and Takeaways

The convention underscored several key insights that are crucial for shaping future dialogues and actions:

  1. Local Relevance in National Issues: Discussions highlighted the need to tailor solutions to local contexts while addressing national challenges. Understanding how issues resonate at the federal, state, and local levels is essential for effective policy reform.

  2. Importance of Election Reform: Participants emphasized the urgent need for electoral reforms to strengthen the American political system and ensure fair representation across all demographics.

  3. Empowering Local Communities: Bringing these conversations to local settings was identified as a powerful way to motivate grassroots engagement and elevate the political discourse nationwide.

Moving Forward Together

The success of the 2024 Braver Angels convention demonstrates that constructive dialogue and collaborative problem-solving can bridge political divides and pave the way for meaningful change. By continuing to engage diverse voices and perspectives, we can build a more inclusive and resilient democracy for generations to come.

Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to join the conversation as we work towards a brighter future for America. Together, we can make a difference!
